School photos are a tradition, but let’s be honest: the stiff poses, awkward smiles, and busy backdrops rarely capture who your child truly is. My black and white kids portraits offer something different. Clean. Timeless. Honest. These portraits focus on authentic expressions and real personality, creating a beautiful yearly record of who your child really is, without the props or distractions. A simple image, once a year, becomes a powerful way to watch them grow.

Why Fine-Art Portraits? Unlike rushed school photos taken by strangers on a tight schedule, these sessions are relaxed, personal, and parent-led. You're there, just out of frame, helping your child feel at ease. Whether that means cracking a joke, offering a reassuring smile, or simply being nearby. The result? Genuine expressions, natural smiles, and portraits that feel like them.

What if my child is shy? No worries at all! I’ve worked with kids of all personalities, and I know how to make them feel comfortable and at ease. If your child is feeling shy or hesitant, I’ll take the time to gently encourage them, using humor and play to help them relax. The session is low-pressure, and we go at their pace. In the end, you’ll have beautiful, authentic portraits, no matter how they start off.

How to prepare? Come ready to have fun! Bring your child’s natural joy and a sense of humor. If that means telling a few silly fart jokes to get them to laugh, so be it. Nothing is off-limits when it comes to making them feel at ease. Bribes help too! The more relaxed and playful the mood, the more natural and beautiful the portraits will be!

What to wear? Keep it simple and let your child shine. Solid tops without logos or busy patterns work best. If you love a clean, airy look, go for light or neutral tones. Prefer a bolder, high-contrast portrait? A dark top will give that classic depth. Most importantly, choose something they feel comfortable and confident in.

What to do with my photos? These are memories worth displaying. Print them. Frame them. Create a gallery wall that grows with your child. Turn a favorite into a bold poster for the playroom or a thoughtful gift for grandparents. However you choose to use them, these portraits are meant to be seen and loved.

Can I bring my baby? This session is perfect for children who can comfortably sit on a low chair on their own. Typically ages 2 and up. If your little one is younger, no worries! Mom can stay close by, just out of frame, to offer comfort and reassurance as needed. The goal is to create a relaxed environment where your child can feel at ease while we capture their natural expressions.

Can my children be photographed together? Absolutely! I can photograph up to 2 kids together in a single vertical frame. For larger groups of siblings, horizontal frames can accommodate up to 4 children comfortably. If you're planning a wall gallery, just keep that in mind. Let me know if you’re aiming for a specific display, and we can plan accordingly!
